1950s Patek Philippe 2488 With Platinum Case Watch

This quietly handsome Patek Philippe replica watch from the 1950s is cased in platinum. The square dial may seem plain but the thick crystal brings added depth to the dial, and the geometry of the case gives the watch additional, though still discreet, presence (the same is true of the contemporary reference 1450 “Top Hat”). At 35mm x 28mm, this isn’t an especially small watch either; the size and shape make it suitable for dress and even formal occasions (there are differing views on wearing a watch with a dinner jacket, but if you’re going to wear one it would be hard to beat this Patek).

Inside is a mechanical masterpiece: the Patek Philippe calibre reference 10’200.  If we could pick a single, simple wristwatch movement of the 20th century that represents the Genevan watch movement design and finishing philosophy at its height, it would probably be this one.

This is a full-bridge, hand-wound movement of absolutely top quality; the steelwork is superb, the layout extremely visually pleasing, and both mechanically and aesthetically its not only irreproachable, but also exemplary.

1940s Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Calendar Watch

This Jaeger-LeCoultre Triple Calendar watch is a perfect example of how the two makers overlapped on certain models. The one you see here has super elegant tear-drop lugs and a beautiful two-tone dial with red date chapter ring. Combined with applied Arabic numerals and triangular indexes in pink gold (along with pink gold hands), this is one hell of a watch - Jaeger LeCoultre replica watches.

The dial is gorgeous and perfectly preserved. Similarly, the case is in great condition, with some light scuffs to the bezel at 9 o’clock and 2 o’clock. The movement is in great working order, with crisp pushers to the right band of the case.

Montblanc Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph

Montblanc installed a large, massy, screw balance in the Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph. In a traditional tourbillon construction, this large balance would require a correspondingly large and heavy rotating cage. But the innovative mechanism of the ExoTourbillon solves this problem by isolating the screw balance from the rotating cage https://www.captainthewatch.is.

The cage is smaller than the balance, which oscillates outside the rotating carriage and on a higher plane. The screw balance is borne between two jewels, while the tourbillon is neither cantilevered nor sandwiched between two bridges, but turns in a two-point bearing at the foot of its staff. The advantage of this construction is that a smaller rotating cage has less mass so it needs less energy to support its rotary motion.

The rotating cage per se is also liberated from the weight of the screw balance: this further reduces the amount of necessary energy because the screw balance, which is isolated from the rotating carriage, is not disturbed by the inertia of the carriage. Compared to a traditional tourbillon construction, energy savings of approximatively 30% are achieved, while at the same time increasing the precision. This innovative construction derives its name from the Greek prefix “exo”, which means “outside” or “external”.

Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950 Carbotech 3 Days PAM00616

The case is made of carbotech, a composite material based on carbon fibre, never before used in the world of watchmaking. As well as providing exceptional technical performance, carbotech has an uneven, matt black appearance, which varies according the cutting of the material: the result is that each example is unique - replica Panerai Luminor Submersible 1950.

The structure of carbotech is designed to enhance both the aesthetics and the performance of the material, which is used to make the case, the rotating bezel and the lever bridge, which protects the winding crown. To form the plates of carbotech from which these components are made, thin sheets of carbon fibres are compressed at a controlled temperature under high pressure together with a high-end polymer, PEEK (Polyether Ether Ketone), which binds the composite material, making it even stronger and more durable.

MOVEMENT: Automatic mechanical, P.9000 calibre, executed entirely by Panerai.

FUNCTIONS: Hours, minutes, small seconds, date, calculation of immersion time.

CASE: 47 mm, carbotech.

DIAL: Black with applied luminous dots and Arabic numerals. Date at 3 o’clock, seconds at 9 o’clock.

POWER RESERVE: 72H.

WATER-RESISTANCE: 300 metres.
